Preview: Spearfish Spartans vs. Stevens Raiders
The Spearfish Spartans and the Stevens Raiders will face off at 7:30 p.m. on December 21st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Spearfish is hoping to put an end to an eight-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Spearfish might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 61-45 to Riggs, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Spearfish in their matchups with Riggs: they've now lost four in a row.
Spearfish's defeat came about despite a quality game from Seth Hamilton, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds. The matchup was Hamilton's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Haroon Khan, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, Stevens came up short against Huron on Saturday and fell 60-52. Stevens has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Spearfish now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Stevens, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.
Spearfish was able to grind out a solid win over Stevens when the teams last played back in February, winning 53-44. The rematch might be a little tougher for Spearfish since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
