            Baseball Recap: Wood Wildcats vs. Vanden Vikings        
        
		
        
        
            Wood's found some homefield redemption this week after a  overtime loss to Vanden on Thursday. The Wildcats narrowly escaped with a  victory as the  team sidled past the Vikings  3-1. This was a revenge game for the Wildcats: when they faced off against the Vikings  last Tuesday, they had to take a  7-6  loss.

 Keegan Pierce spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a  run (which was  unearned)  on three hits and racked up seven Ks. He also  tossed  no  earned runs, which is notable because Wood is 2-1 when he allows at  most  one  earned run, but 6-10 otherwise.
 At the plate,  Tristan Drummond and  Bryan Smith did most of the damage at the plate:  Drummond  went 2-for-3 with two  stolen bases and one  RBI, while  Smith  scored a  run and  stole three bases. That's the most  stolen bases  Smith has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was  Jared Oliver, who  went 1-for-2 with one  triple and one  run.
Wood's record now sits at 8-11. As for Vanden, they have  traveled a rocky road recently, having  lost eight of their last ten matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record  this season.
 Both  squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wood will challenge Napa at 4:00  p.m.  on Friday. The Wildcats are facing the Grizzlies at the right time seeing as the Grizzlies are stuck on  a  three-game losing streak. As for Vanden, they will take on Vacaville at 4:00  p.m.  on Tuesday.
