Baseball Recap: Cherokee County Takes a Loss

Cherokee County fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Alexandria on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Valley Cubs by a score of 2-1. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Warriors couldn't push the score so high this time.

Ben Elsberry spent all 7.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits. Those hits marked the first that he allowed this season.

On the hitting side, Cherokee County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Parker Wilson, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Cherokee County's defeat dropped their record down to 19-12-1. As for Alexandria, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season.

While Cherokee County had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
