Basketball Recap: Whitmire Takes a Loss

Whitmire was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They fell 64-54 to the Thornwell Saints. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Saints this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 71-61 back in January.

Despite the defeat, Whitmire saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Braylen Sartor went 9-for-18 en route to 23 points. The dominant performance gave Sartor a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Kayshaun Schumpert, who posted 11 points.

Whitmire's loss dropped their record down to 2-20. As for Thornwell, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 8-12 record this season.

Whitmire does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Thornwell, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Ware Shoals at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Ware Shoals knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matchups -- so hopefully Thornwell likes a good challenge.
