Softball Recap: Glendale Triumphs

Glendale had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 16-run drubbing they dealt Williamsburg on Thursday. The Vikings never let the Blue Pirates get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory. The Vikings have beaten the Blue Pirates the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Blue Pirates has come to flipping the script.

Hannah Simmers made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, Ava Weld was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Elizabeth Kaufman, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.

Glendale was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Williamsburg only posted a batting average of .111.

Glendale's win bumped their record up to 6-8. As for Williamsburg, they are on a 24-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-14.

Glendale has already played their next game, a 10-0 loss against Central on the 2nd. As for Williamsburg, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, an 18-0 defeat against Curwensville on the 6th.
