Softball Recap: Ridgewood [Alwood/Cambridge]'s Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Tuesday

Ridgewood [AlWood/Cambridge] dropped their record down to 16-7 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's 11-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Stark County Rebels by a score of 3-2. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Gabby Dean put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 15 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Dean wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ella Humphrey, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base. Humphrey is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last eight games she's played.

As for Stark County, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-11-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games.

On Stark County's side, Brooklynn Ostrowski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on 12 hits.

Ridgewood [AlWood/Cambridge] wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, an 8-1 win against Sherrard on the 7th. Hopefully Stark County paid attention to the Spartans' game: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
