Softball Recap: Vance Charter Finds Home Field Redemption Against Oxford Prep

There's no place like home for Vance Charter, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Oxford Prep Griffins by a score of 7-2 on Thursday. The Knights haven't had any issues with the Griffins recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Leah Rice was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dakota Dickerson, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Aubrey Puryear was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI.

Vance Charter was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oxford Prep only posted a batting average of .240.

Vance Charter pushed their record up to 11-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Oxford Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-6.

As of now, neither Vance Charter nor the Griffins have any future games scheduled.
