Volleyball Recap: Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin Falls to Avon Lake in First Game of Season

Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Avon Lake Shoremen by a score of 3-2 on Saturday. The Lions were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Shoremen apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.

Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin took Avon Lake into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking ten-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 21-25, 25-19, 25-18, 24-26, 15-5.

Charlotte Preto was the offensive standout of the matchup as she had seven digs and six aces. She is on a roll when it comes to aces, as she's now served two or more in each of the last four games she's played dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin will be playing at home against Mentor at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Avon Lake, they are taking a road trip to square off against Midview at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be the Shoremen's first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
