Baseball Recap: California Victorious

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but California ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the El Rancho Dons, sneaking past 2-1. This was a revenge game for the Condors: when they faced off against the Dons on Tuesday, they had to take a 4-0 loss.

Brandon Leiva looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, California's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Duarte, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. That's the most hits Duarte has posted since back in March. Alex Vitela was another, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run and one double.

California's victory bumped their record up to 14-6. As for El Rancho, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-10.

California and El Rancho should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Condors (ranked 251st) will meet South Pasadena (ranked 642nd) at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, El Rancho will face off against South East at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (366 vs. 785).
