Basketball Recap: Jalen Kelly Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Southwest Atlanta Christian

Towers lost to Southwest Atlanta Christian back in January of 2019, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Towers Titans strolled past the Southwest Atlanta Christian Warriors with points to spare, taking the game 53-37. Given the Titans' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 179th, while the Warriors are ranked 386th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Towers to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jalen Kelly, who posted 19 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals. Kelly has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times he's played. Domyius Mcfarland was another key player, going 6 for 12 to rack up 15 points along with six boards and five steals.

Towers was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southwest Atlanta Christian only racked up four assists.

Despite the loss, Southwest Atlanta Christian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jabari Burleson went 7 of 15 en route to 16 points in addition to eight steals and six rebounds. Burleson has become a key player for Southwest Atlanta Christian: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least five steals, but 4-16 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Tavaris Burleson, who had five points and five boards.

The win made it two in a row for Towers and bumps their season record up to 15-8. As for Southwest Atlanta Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-18.

Towers does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Southwest Atlanta Christian, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 78-33 victory against Utopian Academy for the Arts on the 7th.
