Basketball Recap: Pollok Central's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Pollok Central waltzed into their matchup on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Pineywoods Community Academy Timberwolves 45-43. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 54-49 back in January.

Leading Pollok Central to victory were Jake Matthews and Law Shaver. Matthews posted 16 points along with seven rebounds and five steals, while Shaver went 8 for 12 on his way to 19 points. Matthews has become a key player for Pollok Central: the team is 17-7 when he posts at least five steals, but 2-3 otherwise. Wyatt Graham was another key player, putting up seven points in addition to five boards and four steals.

Pollok Central's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-10. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points per game. As for Pineywoods Community Academy, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-15.

Coincidentally, Pollok Central and Pineywoods Community Academy will both be playing Central Heights the next time they take the court. Pollok Central will host Central Heights at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Pineywoods Community Academy will host them at 7:15 p.m. on February 7th.
