Softball Game Preview: St. Mary's Lancers vs. Viera Hawks

The St. Mary's Lancers will head out to square off against the Viera Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, St. Mary's didn't have quite enough to beat Eau Gallie and fell 5-4.

Olivia Lange was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits.

On the hitting side, Lauren Payne made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and two runs. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Renee Henning, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Viera, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They put the hurt on Sebastian River with a sharp 17-5 win on Tuesday. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by ten runs or more this season.

Viera also got a great performance from Isabella Kapatoes as she pitched 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits.

At the plate, Kamryn Potts was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with three runs, three doubles, and four RBI. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high. Elaina Snyder also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Viera kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Viera is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. As for St. Mary's, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. St. Mary's hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Viera struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs.
