Preview: Gholson vs. Mount Calm
Gholson and Mount Calm are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2017, but not for long. Gholson will be playing at home against Mount Calm at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mount Calm took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Gholson, who comes in off a win.
Gholson had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Cranfills Gap on Tuesday and snuck past 48-46. The win was just what Gholson needed coming off of a 63-26 loss in their prior contest.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gholson to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aaron Salinas, who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Cayden Thomas, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Mount Calm's recent rough patch got a bit rougher last Tuesday after their fifth straight defeat. They received a tough blow as they fell 57-38 to Oglesby. While losing is never fun, Mount Calm can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1640th, while Oglesby is ranked 776th).
Gholson's win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-11. As for Mount Calm, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season.
Gholson skirted past Mount Calm 45-42 in their previous meeting back in January. Will Gholson repeat their success, or does Mount Calm have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
