What if high school football had an NCAA playoff-like system?

The top four teams in our composite rankings would get the nod: Bishop Gorman, Allen, De La Salle and Colquitt County.

The anticipation and controversy associated with choosing four teams for the NCAA football championship was spectacular, with debates raging right up to the announcement and then more discussion after the brackets were formed.

Any situation that relies on a committee picking teams will feature tough decisions and worthy teams feeling left out.

With how much fun it was to watch the weekly rankings for the college playoff, we thought it would be fun to do the same with high school teams. We used our Composite Top 25 Rankings, which factor in four national rankings, to come up with a list of the Top 25 teams in the nation and used that list to come up with a four-team playoff.

How much would you want to see No. 1 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) against No. 4 Colquitt County (Moultrie, Ga.) and No. 2 Allen (Texas) vs. No. 3 De La Salle (Concord, Calif.)? Then how awesome would it be to see the winners of those games duke it out for a national title?

We will have to keep dreaming, but even the thought of it has to make any high school football fan excited.
