The Leigh Longhorns will head out on the road to square off against the Leland Chargers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Leigh will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.
Leigh's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Westmont with a sharp 12-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Longhorns, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Justin Jeong was incredible, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in February of 2024. Gio Olvera also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Leigh was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .571. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .385 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Leland can bid farewell to their seven-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. Everything went their way against Oak Grove as Leland made off with a 10-0 victory. The high-scoring effort was just what the Chargers needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Sam Mao looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Caden Canter, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Marco Smith, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Leigh's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Leland, they picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 4-7.
Leland's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Leigh has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .502. It's a different story for Leland, though, as they've only averaged .341. Will they be able to contain Leigh's hitters?
Leigh took their victory against Leland in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 7-1. Does Leigh have another victory up their sleeve, or will Leland turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
