Softball Recap: The First Academy Beats Lyman for Their Third Straight Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but The First Academy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-9 win over the Lyman Greyhounds. The victory was familiar territory for the Royals, who have now won three games in a row.

Isabella Brown made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched eight innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off eight hits. Brown was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.

In other batting news, Lily Bissonnette and Nola-Blair Simmons did most of the damage at the plate: Bissonnette went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Simmons scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Bissonnette is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Sulexy Falcon was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4.

The First Academy's record now sits at 5-7. As for Lyman, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-10.

The First Academy and Lyman could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. The First Academy will take on St. Cloud at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday down 159 places (248 vs. 89). Meanwhile, Lyman (ranked 273rd) will meet Lake Howell (ranked 59th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
