Baseball Recap: Archbishop Stepinac Snaps Three-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Archbishop Stepinac dropped their record down to 7-8 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They fell 5-0 to the Moore Catholic Mavericks. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Crusaders of the 2-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

As for Moore Catholic, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games.

For Moore Catholic's part, not much got past NICHOLAS NEVILLE, who gave up just a hit and racked up six Ks to keep Archbishop Stepinac off the board. NEVILLE has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Moore Catholic let TODD VIERRA and JUSTIN NELSON run wild. VIERRA went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base, while NELSON went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. NELSON is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. RYAN ZEH was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Archbishop Stepinac will venture away from home to face off against Albertus Magnus at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Moore Catholic, they will square off against Monsignor Scanlan at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
