Baseball Recap: Randolph Comes Up Short

Randolph extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 9-12 in the process. They fell 5-2 to the Hondo Owls. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Owls this season, with their most recent loss being a 5-0 defeat on Friday.

As for Hondo, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-5-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games.

For Hondo's part, Kolby Gear looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Gear posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Andrew Tapia, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Kaleb Coronado was another key player, earning two runs and two stolen bases.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Randolph beat Hondo by a score of 5-1 later that day.
