Quantico is 1-7 against Seton since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Warriors will face off against the Conquistadors at 3:45 p.m. Quantico has given up an average of 11.5 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Quantico came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Front Royal HomeSchool, falling 11-5.
Henry Davis made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run. Tim Bleigh also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Seton). They had just enough and edged out Randolph-Macon Academy 13-11. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Joey Goodman was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, three RBI, and two doubles. The team also got some help courtesy of Zack Guercio, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one run.
Seton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Quantico's loss dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Seton, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Quantico has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Seton struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Quantico skirted past Seton 7-6 when the teams last played on Thursday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
