Football Recap: Genoa-Hugo Sets Scoring Season-High Against Cheraw

Genoa-Hugo scored the most points they've had this season on Thursday, but it wasn't enough. They received a blow as they fell 62-44 to the Cheraw Wolverines. The Pirates were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wolverines apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2022.

Despite the loss, Genoa-Hugo saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Clint Hale picked up 33 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Genoa-Hugo didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Ryker Lockhart and Isiah Yoder.

Genoa-Hugo is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3. As for Cheraw, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Genoa-Hugo will square off against Flagler at 1:00 p.m. on October 4. The Pirates' defense better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 32.5 points per game this season. As for Cheraw, they will challenge Eads at 7:00 p.m. on October 3. The Wolverines will need to watch out since the Eagles have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
