Big VIII recap Oct. 3, 2012
Centennial extended the longest winning streak in Big VIII this week by beating Etiwanda, 68-15. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Corona and La Sierra played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Corona eventually emerging with a 25-20 victory. Nick Gibson threw for 68 yards and one touchdown, ran for 60 yards and caught one passes for 16 yards in the win.
Sergio Alvarez was the best wideout in the league this week as the Panthers bested the Eagles. Alvarez racked up four receptions for 100 yards. Alex Reynoso helped Corona's passing attack out by catching one ball for 21 yards.
Robert Webber put up the best numbers through the air as Centennial defeated the Eagles. He finished with seven completions for 254 yards. Webber's favorite target this week was Barry Ware, who caught one pass for 90 yards.
Joseph Ajeigbe was the most productive running back in Big VIII this week. He ran for 188 yards on 22 carries as Norco beat La Sierra. Cory Young also contributed to the rushing game with 44 yards on the ground.
5-foot-10 quarterback Webber of Matt Logan's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1043. He has also thrown seven touchdowns. On the ground, the Cougars' Ajeigbe has rushed for 807 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Dorion Barnett. The Santiago star has 26 catches for 373 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Huskies take on Steve Hill's team. Centennial is in first place, while the Panthers are in fifth place.
The Huskies took down Etiwanda 68-15 last week, the largest margin of any game. Webber ran for six yards in the win.
