The Falkner Eagles will challenge the Hickory Flat Rebels at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Falkner has three straight wins, Hickory Flat has 15 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Falkner took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Potts Camp, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Falkner narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Potts Camp 11-9. The game was the first time the Eagles have beaten the Cardinals on their field since April 3, 2017.
Erick Lumpkin made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, Gavin Wooley was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted over his last nine contests. John Lumpkin was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Saturday just wasn't the day for Hickory Flat's offense. They came up short against Mantachie on Saturday, falling 20-0.
Falkner pushed their record up to 14-4 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Hickory Flat, their loss dropped their record down to 0-13.
Hickory Flat's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Falkner has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .554. It's a different story for Hickory Flat, though, as they've only averaged .233. Will they be able to contain Falkner's hitters?
