Basketball Recap: Covenant Day Comes Up Short

Covenant Day lost against Cannon back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Covenant Day Lions fell just short of the Cannon Cougars by a score of 68-66. The Lions were up 20-4 in the first quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Defeat or not, Covenant Day got some senior leadership from Chris Rivens and Tyree White. Rivens went 8 for 11 on his way to 20 points and three steals, while White dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 assists. Those 12 assists gave White a new career-high. Micah Huffman was another key player, putting up eight points and eight boards.

Even though they lost, Covenant Day was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cannon only posted eight assists.

Cannon got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Sean Nix out in front who went 8 of 14 en route to 28 points. Nix has been hot for a while, having posted 15 or more points the last 13 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Evan Ingram, who went 6 for 10 on his way to 18 points and five rebounds.

Covenant Day's loss dropped their record down to 14-13. As for Cannon, their record is now 13-11.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Charlotte Christian the next time they take the court. Covenant Day will host Charlotte Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, while Cannon will host them at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
