Basketball Recap: Greeley Central Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Madison Sepeda and Aaniya Davis

On Friday, the Greeley Central Wildcats came up short against the Timnath Cubs and fell 51-42. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 136th, while the Cubs are ranked 47th).

Aaniya Davis and Madison Sepeda certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Davis went 7 of 16 en route to 17 points along with seven boards and three steals, while Sepeda posted 17 points and five assists. The contest was Sepeda's ninth in a row with at least 15 points. Mayra Flores also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Timnath's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gretchen Deines led the charge by going 5 for 11 on her way to 16 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. That's the most points Deines has posted since back in February of 2024. Tiana Guzman was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 12 points and nine boards.

Greeley Central has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-7 record this season. As for Timnath, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-2.

Greeley Central wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 47-42 defeat against Thompson Valley on the 4th. As for Timnath, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 59-10 win against Mountain View on the 4th.
