Basketball Game Preview: Westview Wolverines vs. San Marcos Knights

Westview hasn't had much luck against San Marcos recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Westview Wolverines will head out on the road to take on the San Marcos Knights at 7:00 p.m.

Last Friday, Westview was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 45-44 to Del Norte. The Wolverines have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask San Marcos). They claimed a resounding 84-39 win over Mt. Carmel. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 29th, while the Sundevils are ranked 708th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Westview better keep an eye on Richie Ramirez. He was instrumental in San Marcos' win, almost dropping a triple-double on 21 points, nine rebounds, and 12 assists. The dominant performance gave Ramirez a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Mike Brown, who went 6 of 9 en route to 15 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

San Marcos was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mt. Carmel only posted 11 assists.

San Marcos pushed their record up to 17-3 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 77.8 points per game. As for Westview, their loss dropped their record down to 11-9.

Westview was taken down by San Marcos 59-31 in their previous meeting back in February of 2022. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Westview was down 34-12.
