Baseball Recap: Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders vs. Wake Forest Cougars

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Cardinal Gibbons had no problem doing just that on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over the Wake Forest Cougars. Winning may never get old, but Cardinal Gibbons sure is getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Owen Hines looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off one hit.

At the plate, Cam Tarkenton was a standout: he got on base in three of his five plate appearances with a home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Damon Phillips, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Cardinal Gibbons has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a massive bump to their 15-13 record this season. As for Wake Forest, their loss dropped their record down to 23-4.

Cardinal Gibbons is on the road again on Tuesday to play Ashley at 6:30 p.m. Ashley will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something Cardinal Gibbons surely won't give up without a fight. Wake Forest does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
