Softball Game Preview: Gulf Shores Dolphins vs. Spanish Fort Toros

The Gulf Shores Dolphins will face off against the Spanish Fort Toros at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gulf Shores will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Gulf Shores' pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They came out on top against Baldwin County by a score of 3-0. That's two games straight that the Dolphins have won by exactly three runs.

The result came thanks to Madi Nelson's shutout, as she gave up just two hits.

On the hitting side, Gulf Shores saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anna Leigh Price, who went 1-for-3 with one home run. Anayia McCutchen was another, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Spanish Fort faced Orange Beach in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Toros fell 4-0 to the Makos. The Toros have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Spanish Fort also got a good showing from Mallarie Beagle, who didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Beagle has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

Spanish Fort's loss dropped their record down to 30-8. As for Gulf Shores, their victory bumped their record up to 22-14-1.

Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Gulf Shores hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .337. However, it's not like Spanish Fort struggles in that department as they've averaged .334. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
