Softball Recap: Harding Comes Up Short

Harding extended their losing streak to nine on Wednesday, dropping them down to 2-10. They came up short against the Immaculate Mustangs, falling 20-4. The Presidents were not able to make up for their loss to the Mustangs from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

As for Immaculate, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-10. The contest marked their most dominant victory of the season.

For Immaculate's part, Maddie Costa made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Costa has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off four runs, three doubles, and one triple while going 5-for-5. Those five hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Norah Whitmore was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Jessica Sposato, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base.

Harding and Immaculate could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Connecticut Rankings. The Presidents will challenge New Milford at 4:15 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (120 vs. 2). Meanwhile, Immaculate (ranked 89th) will meet Masuk (ranked third) at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.
