Softball Game Preview: Covina Colts vs. Duarte Falcons

Covina has gone a perfect 5-0 against Duarte recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Covina Colts will be playing at home against the Duarte Falcons at 3:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive.

Covina's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They walked away with a 3-0 victory over Mountain View. The three-run effort marked the Colts' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Not much got past Lexi Sumpter, who gave up just two hits and racked up 17 Ks to keep Mountain View off the board. The dominant performance gave Sumpter a new career-high in strikeouts.

On the hitting side, Isabell Ramirez was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Giselle Rodarte also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, Duarte got the win against Ramona Convent on Saturday by a conclusive 10-0. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by six runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Daniella Matiarena, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Ramirez, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

Duarte kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ramona Convent only managed four hits.

Covina's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Duarte, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.

Covina beat Duarte 7-4 in their previous matchup back in March of 2022. Will Covina repeat their success, or does Duarte have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
