A feisty cat fight will be fought as Midlothian Heritage Jaguars duke it out with Corsicana Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Midlothian Heritage is coming into the contest hot, having won their last nine games.
Midlothian Heritage barely beat Red Oak the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Jaguars blew past the Hawks 16-5 on Tuesday. The Jaguars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Skeylah Shirley was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 4.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Shirley was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Taylor Bilderback, who fired off two home runs, four runs, and three RBI while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Rylee Parrish, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Midlothian Heritage kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in eight consecutive games.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Corsicana ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 win over Terrell. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Corsicana as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Midlothian Heritage pushed their record up to 19-7 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Corsicana, their win bumped their record up to 6-12-1.
Midlothian Heritage took their victory against Corsicana in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 20-2 score. Do the Jaguars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
