Athens is a perfect 9-0 against Cowanesque Valley since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Wildcats will face off against the Indians at 4:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Athens 3.9, Cowanesque Valley 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Athens came out on top against Mansfield on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run seventh inning. The Wildcats won by a run and slipped past the Tigers 8-7. Winning may never get old, but the Wildcats sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Duncan Thetga made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Thetga wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Connor Davidson, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Cowanesque Valley came out on top against Sayre on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fifth inning. The Indians were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Sabres. Considering the Indians have won seven contests by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Athens, Cowanesque Valley also got a great game from a two-way player: Levi Stahli. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Stahli has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Dave Hess was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Hunter Simonds, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Athens' victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-2. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 7.4 runs. As for Cowanesque Valley, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Athens has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cowanesque Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Athens came out on top in a nail-biter against Cowanesque Valley in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
