Football Recap: Western Boone Piles Up the Points Against Greencastle

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Western Boone's strategy against Greencastle on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Stars blew the Tiger Cubs out of the water with a 76-34 final score. The Stars pushed the score to 69-34 by the end of the third, a deficit the Tiger Cubs had no chance of recovering from.

Western Boone got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jacob Smith out in front who rushed for 330 yards and five TDs while picking up 12.7 yards per carry. With that strong performance, Smith is now averaging an impressive 2.5 rushing touchdowns per game. Brennan Kopriva was another key player, rushing for 87 yards and a pair of scores on only 11 carries.

Greencastle's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Cole Stephens, who threw for 417 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 12.6 yards per attempt, and Trevin Long, who picked up 242 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. Long was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield on a catch that went for 65 yards.

The win got Western Boone back to even at 2-2. As for Greencastle, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.

Coming up, Western Boone will challenge North Montgomery at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Stars will be up against the Chargin' Chargers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 46.5 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Greencastle, they will be playing in front of their home fans against North Putnam at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,088 yards in their previous games.
