Softball Recap: Arlington Triumphs

Arlington proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by ten) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 win over the Collierville Dragons. The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Dragons: they've now won seven in a row.

Brittanie Layton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on 11 hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Breleigh Bunker was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Rory Caldwell was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.

Bunker wasn't the only one making solid contact: Arlington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive matchups.

Arlington's win bumped their record up to 7-9-2. As for Collierville, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 7-7-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Arlington will challenge Houston at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season. As for Collierville, they will face off against Briarcrest Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
