The Greenup County Musketeers will head out to take on the Lexington Catholic Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Greenup County is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.
Greenup County hadn't beaten Huntington on the road since March 26, 2018 but that history sure didn't bother them on Thursday. Greenup County came out on top against Huntington by a score of 10-5.
Luke Boggs was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Boggs was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ty Logan, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Lexington Catholic posted their closest victory since May 16, 2024 on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against St. Xavier, sneaking past 6-5. The win continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won three in a row.
Like Greenup County, Lexington Catholic also got a great game from a two-way player: Cody Decker. He tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Decker was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three).
In other batting news, Owen Jenkins was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. Jack White also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Greenup County's record now sits at 3-0. As for Lexington Catholic, their record now sits at 3-1-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Greenup County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Lexington Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Greenup County suffered a grim 13-7 defeat to Lexington Catholic in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can Greenup County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
