Basketball Recap: Geneva Takes a Loss

Geneva lost against Winter Springs back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Geneva Knights had to suffer through a 76-41 loss at the hands of the Winter Springs Bears. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 566th, while the Bears are ranked 173rd).

Leading Winter Springs to victory were Elijah Nieves and Daniel Stringer. Nieves went 8 of 13 from beyond the arc on his way to 32 points and five steals, while Stringer went 10 for 17 en route to 24 points. The dominant performance gave Nieves a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Josiah Thurmond, who posted six points.

This is the second loss in a row for Geneva and nudges their season record down to 13-8. As for Winter Springs, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 17-6.

Geneva has already played their next match (against Apopka Christian Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Winter Springs will welcome Lyman at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Winter Springs is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.3 points per game this season.
