4A Metro Top Player Performances of the Week

Congratulations to this week's top players! We're covering the best performances from Friday's football action (using all statistics entered as of the time of writing). Enjoy!

Ian Mckinnon's Rushing Yards a New Career-High

Starting off the list is Southeast Guilford's Ian Mckinnon, who we judged to be the best player in the league this week. On Friday Mckinnon made 11 total tackles, good enough to also set a new career-high in rushing yards in the process. He also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because Southeast Guilford is undefeated when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 1-3 otherwise.

The win was the third in a row for Southeast Guilford, bringing their record for this year to 5-3. It'll be Northside v. Southside when their and Northwest Guilford meet at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

A Season-Best Performance from Faizon Brandon Leads Grimsley over Southwest Guilford

On Friday, Grimsley got the W thanks in part to Faizon Brandon playing the best football he has all season. Brandon rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 136 yards and two touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes. The effort marked the most rushing yards he has had since back in August of 2023. He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 86-yard run.

Brandon must have Southwest Guilford's number; he was a force to be reckoned with the last time he faced them too. Back in October of 2023 (the last time Brandon saw the Cowboys), he threw for 204 yards and four touchdowns on only 14 passes, and also rushed for 40 yards.

Mitchell Summers' Big Game Leads Grimsley over Southwest Guilford

Mitchell Summers's big game helped extend Grimsley's winning streak to eight on Friday. Summers was dynamite, rushing for 86 yards and four touchdowns on only eight carries. He is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last 11 games he's played dating back to last season.

Southwest Guilford's probably not too fond of Summers given he always seems to get the better of them. When Summers last faced the Cowboys back in October of 2023, he rushed for 183 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries.

While Simeon Libby delivered a dominant performance on Friday, a win just wasn't in the cards for Western Guilford. Southeast Guilford had no answer to Libby as he picked up three sacks and made 11 total tackles (4.0 for loss).

Western Guilford is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-4. Libby and Western Guilford will face off against Northern Guilford at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Dwight Hall Crosses Big Stat Threshold

Dwight Hall was instrumental in extending Northern Guilford's winning streak to eight on Friday. Hall was excellent, rushing for 153 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.5 yards per carry. The performance once again pushed his average rushing yardage north of 100 yards per game (101.1).

If the past is any indication, Hall could be in store for another big game when he takes on Western Guilford on Thursday. Back in October of 2023 (the last time Hall saw the Hornets), he rushed for 203 yards while picking up 7.3 yards per carry.
