Basketball Recap: Widefield Gladiators vs. Pueblo County Hornets
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Widefield can now relate to. They took a 55-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pueblo County Hornets on Wednesday. The Gladiators were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hornets apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2021.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Pueblo County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ashlyn Ortiz, who went 5-for-7 on her way to 12 points and three steals. Ortiz is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as she's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games she's played. Cloie Cortez was another key player, shooting 56% from the field to rack up 13 points and seven rebounds.
Widefield has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-10 record this season. Pueblo County's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-14.
Widefield does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Pueblo County, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 67-41 defeat against Frederick on the 1st.
