Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Jay County). They put the hurt on the Richmond Red Devils with a sharp 25-3 victory on Friday. Considering the Patriots have won 13 games by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Morgan Missicano and Chloe Brown did most of the damage at the plate: Missicano went a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Brown got on base in all four of her plate appearances with five runs, three RBI, and one double. Missicano is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Jada Plessinger also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Jay County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .760. The last time their OBP was this high was was before the start of last season.
The win (which was Jay County's eighth in a row) raised their record to 19-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.6 runs over those games. As for Richmond, their defeat was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-14.
Jay County and Richmond are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Patriots will take on Delta at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Richmond, they will challenge Muncie Central at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
