Basketball Recap: Penelope Arroyo's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Layton Christian Academy over Brighton

The Layton Christian Academy Eagles came up short against the Brighton Bengals on Monday, falling 64-41. The Eagles were down 50-26 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Penelope Arroyo, who went 5 for 11 on her way to 11 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Sarah Ledio, who posted nine points and five rebounds.

Olivia Stephens continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Brighton, dropping a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds. Those ten boards gave Stephens a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sophie Nielsen, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards.

Layton Christian Academy dropped their record down to 4-6 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Brighton, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Layton Christian Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 59-27 loss against Overland on the 18th. As for Brighton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 60-26 win against Cyprus on the 19th.
