Basketball Recap: Greater Cabarrus S Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Sarah Rodriguez and Miley Bargesser

Greater Cabarrus S was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They lost to the Metrolina Christian Academy Warriors at home by a 66-50 margin. While losing is never fun, the Stallions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 491st, while the Warriors are ranked 225th).

Miley Bargesser and Sarah Rodriguez certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Bargesser posted 16 points and six steals, while Rodriguez went 6 of 10 on her way to 15 points along with six boards and three steals. Those six steals gave Bargesser a new career-high. Austin Miller was another key player, putting up 12 points and seven rebounds.

Metrolina Christian Academy had a senior duo take command as Emily King went 11 for 19 en route to 31 points in addition to seven boards and five steals and Jenna Carlson dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which King has scored at least a third of Metrolina Christian Academy's points. Another player making a difference was Diane Mullinax, who scored two points along with five boards and four blocks.

Greater Cabarrus S's defeat dropped their record down to 4-14. As for Metrolina Christian Academy, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-5.

Greater Cabarrus S didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 38-35 loss against South Charlotte on the 14th. Metrolina Christian Academy has also already played their next contest, a 97-35 defeat against Concord Academy on the 13th.
