Softball Recap: Mesquite's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Mesquite's game on Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 15-13 victory over the St. Mary's Knights. The win was some much needed relief for the Wildcats as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Mia Gutierrez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alyiah Durden, who scored two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Gutierrez wasn't the only one making solid contact: Mesquite kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 27 hits. The Wildcats are 5-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Mesquite's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 5-9. As for St. Mary's, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season.

Mesquite will have a chance to go back-to-back against St. Mary's: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
