Softball Recap: Yorktown Find Success

Yorktown hadn't done well against Kenedy recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Yorktown narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Kenedy 22-21. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

The team relied heavily on Audrena Hernandez, who went 4-for-5 with eight RBI, three runs, and two doubles. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Paige Deleon also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Yorktown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .640. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Yorktown's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 5-6. As for Kenedy, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 14-8-1.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Yorktown will square off against rival Woodsboro at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Kenedy is set to challenge their familiar foe Port Aransas at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
