Basketball Recap: Wakeland Skates Past Newman Smith with Ease

There's no place like home for Wakeland, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They blew past the Newman Smith Trojans 64-33 on Tuesday. Given the Wolverines' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 163rd, while the Trojans are ranked 830th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Wakeland is also on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a massive bump to their 18-9 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.0 points per game. As for Newman Smith, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-17 record this season.

Wakeland will square off against Highland Park at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Highland Park knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Wakeland likes a good challenge. As for Newman Smith, they will host The Colony at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.
