Baseball Game Preview: Sonora Wildcats vs. Hilmar Yellowjackets

The Sonora Wildcats will face off against the Hilmar Yellowjackets at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Sonora has given up an average of 9.7 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Sonora is headed into Wednesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Friday. They lost 15-2 to Hughson.

Steven Morfoot put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Morfoot was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Morfoot wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cameron Pousard, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Hilmar earned a 7-3 win over Orestimba on Friday. The Yellowjackets haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Marlin Kindberg tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Hilmar let Ian Kohen and Jacob Sward run wild. Kohen scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Sward scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was John Lopez, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Sonora's loss dropped their record down to 2-13. As for Hilmar, their win bumped their record up to 12-2.

Everything went Sonora's way against Hilmar in their previous meeting back in March of 2015, as Sonora made off with an 18-4 victory. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Yellowjackets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
