Softball Recap: Loyola Academy Drops Highest Score of Season Against Maine South

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Loyola Academy). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Maine South Hawks a 10-0 shutout on Saturday. The win continues a trend for the Ramblers in their matchups with the Hawks: they've now won five in a row.

Mary McQuillen looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Gwen Coleman and Emilia Bartholomew did most of the damage at the plate: Coleman scored four runs while going 3-for-4, while Bartholomew went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most hits Coleman has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Chloe Takacs, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Loyola Academy hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Maine South struck out nine times.

Loyola Academy's victory bumped their record up to 3-8. As for Maine South, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Loyola Academy will host Montini Catholic at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Maine South, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Glenbrook South at 4:45 p.m. The Hawks are facing the Titans at the right time seeing as the Titans are stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
