Whale Branch is 0-5 against Barnwell since March of 2015 but things could change on Tuesday. The Warriors will host the Warhorses at 5:00 p.m.
Friday just wasn't the day for Whale Branch's offense. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 10-0 to Hampton County, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Warriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Barnwell came tearing into Friday's contest with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.9 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 15-9 margin over the Cougars. The result was nothing new for the Warhorses, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Trey Boleman made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Joe Huggins, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jax Mead, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5.
Barnwell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Barnwell's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Whale Branch, their loss dropped their record down to 2-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Whale Branch has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Barnwell struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
