Basketball Recap: Coral Gables Takes a Loss

Coral Gables was the 48-36 winner over North Miami Beach when they last played one another back in November of 2018, but their luck changed this time around. The Coral Gables Cavaliers were dealt a 67-15 defeat at the hands of the North Miami Beach Chargers on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Cavaliers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 474th, while the Chargers are ranked 211th).

Leading North Miami Beach to victory were Serena Volcy and Yoshaney Cayaso. Volcy went 13 of 18 on her way to 27 points along with eight boards and three steals, while Cayaso dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. That's the most points Cayaso has posted since back in February of 2024. Queen Harrell was another key player, putting up eight points.

Coral Gables has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for North Miami Beach, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.

Coral Gables will face off against Lourdes Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for North Miami Beach, they will take on Reagan at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
