Volleyball Preview: Austin Eagles vs. Charlestown Pirates

Austin is 2-8 against Charlestown since September of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Austin Eagles will challenge the Charlestown Pirates at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Wednesday, everything went Austin's way against Switzerland County as Austin made off with a 3-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.

While Austin might've won, it sure wasn't easy: Switzerland County scored at least points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-7, 25-15, 25-16.

Austin's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Abbi Cantwell, who had 13 digs. Another player making a difference was Jayleigh Schepman, who had 15 digs, two kills, and 20 assists.

Meanwhile, Charlestown had already won three in a row and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the Tigers.

Charlestown was actually outscored in aggregate across those three sets (62-60), but they still managed to win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 18-25, 27-25, 15-12.

Austin's record is now 7-9. As for Charlestown, they pushed their record up to 15-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Austin suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Charlestown in their previous matchup back in September of 2023. Can Austin avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
