Baseball Recap: Oscar Smith's Loss Ends Four-Game Winning Streak at Home

Oscar Smith fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Lakeland on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cavaliers by a score of 5-3. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cavaliers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Dominick Zak was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has become a key player for Oscar Smith: the team is 5-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-8 otherwise. Zak was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Donte Brooks Jr. was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Oscar Smith's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-9. As for Lakeland, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Oscar Smith will welcome Green Run at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Tigers are facing the Stallions at the right time seeing as the Stallions are stuck on a 17-game losing streak. As for Lakeland, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Norcom at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Greyhounds have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.74 runs per game on average), something the Cavaliers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
