Basketball Recap: Thatcher Gets the Win

Thatcher hadn't done well against Coolidge recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Thatcher Eagles rang in the new year with a 59-50 victory over the Coolidge Bears. This was a revenge game for the Eagles: when they faced off against the Bears back in December of 2024, they had to take a 47-36 loss.

Isaac Palmer was his usual excellent self, going 9 for 21 on his way to 26 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Nicholas, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 10 points and six rebounds.

Thatcher smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in eight consecutive contests.

Coolidge's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Adarius Miguel, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Porter Dees, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.

Thatcher's win bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Coolidge, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-3.

Thatcher didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 67-45 victory against Willcox on the 3rd. As for Coolidge, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 65-50 win against Veritas Prep on the 4th.
